WHO: merrin & cal kestis
WHEN: now, before all hell inevitably breaks loose
WHERE: castle netvor
WHAT: a date that doesn't involve murking stormtroopers or speaking to the dead...probably
WARNINGS: none yet...?? will update if needed
[ The sentient object-servants had been, perhaps unsurprisingly, accommodating of Merrin's idea to have lunch delivered to their room—eager, even. Maybe a little too eager, judging by the dishes on dishes on dishes piled high with elaborately prepared food they produce. Some of which she suspects, based on prior experience, contain booze or other unexpected ingredients.
But it's the thought that counts. It's not as though she ever expects things to go perfectly or smoothly with Cal, anyway—there's always some crisis, some problem, some fight. It feels so rare that they're ever allowed to just be.
She teleports all the food to their room with a spell and a wave of her hand, then thanks the servants before heading out to find Cal. ]

A...strange turn of events, but he's sure things can always get stranger.
It's at this particular time that he's in the reading room, legs tucked under himself in a chair while he stares down at the words in an open book in his lap. Studying isn't really his thing, not if there's some action to be taken instead, but so far he hasn't found too much of that here. Instead, his eyes glaze over as he reads the same two sentences multiple times to no avail, the information therein refusing to soak into his brain.
He doesn't even remember what book he's picked up, so he flips the cover over and - something about animal husbandry?
What the hell?
Luckily for him, the door to the reading room opens to reveal Merrin. Now that perks him up right away and he shuts the book without another thought before abandoning it on the table beside him and getting up to greet Merrin.]
Oh, am I glad to see you. I think I need to be rescued from this place.

Then again, there isn't much to fight here except the cutlery and candlesticks, so can she really blame him? ]
It wouldn't be the first time I've rescued you, Jedi.
[ She peeks down at the table to read the book's cover, her eyebrows shooting up in surprise at the subject. ]
Are you thinking of going into ranching?
[ Without even bothering to wait for his answer, she takes his hand, a smile playing on her lips, and urges him to follow her out of the library. No, she isn't going to explain where they're going or why, because why would she? ]

He'd also be both very entertaining because of the "haunted" castle and admittedly kind of annoying about it, but those are neither here nor there.
The important matter is that Merrin has found him and Cal smiles at her, even as he's teased.]
I'm sure it won't be the last time, either.
[Not that he actively goes looking to get himself into trouble. Really. These things just happen!
With regards to the book, Cal just shrugs, but immediately finds himself being pulled from the reading room without a word. Still, if Merrin's going to ask a silly question, she's going to get an equally silly answer.]
Oh, you know. Maybe? Tanalorr looked kinda sparse on the livestock front. Hey, how hard do you think it would be to convince Greez to smuggle some animals in the cargo hold?
[And then, a moment later - ]
Where are we going, anyway?
no subject
So you can overrun Tanalorr with boglings too?
[ She doesn't know much about ecology, but those boglings have to be an invasive species. They've completely invaded Koboh.
Take note of how she uses you, though, despite the fact that she was totally complicit—supportive, even—in the stowaway shenanigans aboard the Mantis. ]
To our room.
[ No other details are forthcoming. But she keeps leading the way there, her fingers still threaded through his as she falls into step beside him. ]

[He's very sure that wasn't his doing. There was just the one bogling on the Mantis for a while, and he'll take responsibility for that, but it was one! It's not like they reproduce asexually or something.
Right?
...Oh, no, Cal doesn't actually know for sure. Did he accidentally introduce boglings to Koboh? Okay, so even if he did, at least they're cute and don't try to kill people on sight. There are worse creatures in the galaxy.
More interesting, however, is whatever Merrin is up to. Cal gives her hand a little squeeze and leans in closer, voice a little low.]
And what's in our room?
[He doesn't expect an answer, but curiosity still has a hold on him.]

It must be coincidence, then.
[ Her tone is dry as dust, with just enough room for doubt.
But his follow-up question makes her soften, and she shoots him a mischievous glance out of the corner of her eye. It's a witch's prerogative to be mysterious, after all, and she finds that she wants to surprise him.
He seems to get so few good surprises. ]
Do you not remember? A bed, a wardrobe. A table and two chairs. A window overlooking the garden.
no subject
[Then again, how many people are traveling between Bogano and Koboh aside from them and the Empire?
Anyway.
He deserves the answer he receives, though, and laughs softly.]
Sorry, must've gotten distracted by my roommate.
no subject
[ She levels him with an incredulous look, her eyebrows raised. Just his roommate? Two can play this game. ]
They must be very distracting.
[ Finally, they reach their shared room—she leads the way inside, slipping her hand from his. The small dining table stands in front of the aforementioned window overlooking the garden, absolutely piled high with food of all kinds: savory, sweet, and everything in between. Lots of hors d'oeuvres. There are even a few varieties of heart-shaped sandwiches and cakes.
The servants went a little overboard.
Merrin doesn't say anything, but should he glance over at her, she does happen to look pretty pleased with herself. ]
