[Viktor doesn't exactly brighten, but he seems to perk up a little at not being turned away (he wouldn't have blamed her if she had, given the fact that this seems to be a delicate operation). Still, he keeps his voice low, understanding the need to be discreet.]

And? What have you found so far?

[If she wants to share--he's not sure how she ended up along for the ride, but she does seem to have her wits about her, at any rate.]

Mostly just herbs for potions. [She murmurs it, almost to herself, as her attention is drawn to a particular gathering a plants that look familiar to something she saw in the book on local herbs. She should get those.

But first to not be rude.]

Ah - sorry. They're for healing. The potions. [Just in case! Not everyone knows what potions are, and some of the wizarding world's terminology is antiquated.]

[She sounds a little disappointed—Viktor won’t press the issue. He understands that they’re under duress, and what might be useful in one situation might come up short in another. Still, he’s constantly seeking knowledge, even in such an unfamiliar scenario, and her mention of healing gets his attention.]

I understand this is probably not the, eh. Optimal time— [Some self-awareness, at least.] —but are you suggesting an alchemical process?

[She pauses at that question, and muses to herself, under her breath but audible still.] I suppose potions making is a bit alchemical, if you wanted to be poetic about it...

[Still, it doesn't sound right. Many professors would definitely judge her for even considering it.] The closest approximation would be - do you know the term chemistry?

[There's something on his face that might be relief. Sure, he's versed in magic, at this point, but not the systems of this world. Ultimately, he's a man of science, so he jumps at the chance to be familiar with the terminology.]

Chemistry, yes! Not my area of study, but hopefully that puts us on a similar level of...technological advancement.

I’d need to know more to determine whether that’s the case, but no, it doesn’t sound like it.

[Given the presumed existence of infinite universes, Viktor finds it unlikely that he’d find someone else from his own world here, though he can’t blame her for having some hope, in that department. She doesn’t seem deterred by his answer, at least.]

I’m a physicist, technically speaking. Applied mathematics, engineering. But I know a little about a lot of things.
