ten thousand years later

"Yes," Wen Qing replies shortly, trying to think of where they can bury the skulls. The land around the village and even into the forest is compromised, as Lan Wangji said, and wouldn't serve as a peaceful resting place for anyone, and these skulls deserve the best spot possible.

She crosses her arms, tapping the fingers of one hand against her arm. "Perhaps deeper into the forest, near some of the ancient temples." While normally, Wen Qing wouldn't bury someone close to a shrine, the land around some of them seems a little better. The fox spirits might be a little troublesome, if they venture into those bits of the forest. "If nothing else, we can find ground that hasn't been compromised."

As a cultivator, she had to learn some rites, especially when dealing with her uncle and some of his unusual puppets. And despite her attempts, not everyone she treated survived. So she knows how to bury the skulls and do the last rites, although now she wishes she'd learned a little more about such practices.

"We will do what we can for them," she says, more to herself than to Hermione, but offers the other woman an encouraging smile. Dropping her arms, she gestures toward a small trail between the trees, leading further away from the village.
